An Ode To Kaifi Azmi
یوں ہی کوئی مل گیا تھا سرِ راہ چلتے چلتے Yoon hi koi mil gaya tha sar-e-raah chalte chalte
وہیں تھم کے رہ گئی ہے میری رات ڈھلتے ڈھلتے
Wahin tham ke reh gayi hai meri raat dhalte dhalte
جو کہی گئی نہ مجھ سے وہ زمانہ کہہ رہا ہے
Jo kahi gayi na mujh se woh zamana keh raha hai
کہ فسانہ بن گئی ہے میری بات ٹلتے ٹلتے
Ke fasana ban gayi hai meri baat talte talte
شبِ انتظار آخر کبھی ہوگی مختصر بھی
Shab-e-intizaar aakhir kabhi hogi mukhtasar bhi
یہ چراغ بجھ رہے ہیں میرے ساتھ جلتے جلتے
Yeh charaagh bujh rahe hain mere saath jalte jalte
Translation:
I happened to meet someone by chance while walking along the road, And right there, my night came to a standstill as it began to fade. What I could never bring myself to say — the world is now repeating, For my unspoken words have turned into a legend, over time, slowly. Will this night of waiting ever come to a close? These lamps are burning out, slowly, along with me. |
